Middle Country Central School District’s Selden Middle School recently welcomed Director of the Town of Brookhaven Wheelchair Sports Jay Sorcelli and members of the renowned National Wheelchair Basketball Association (NWBA) team, the New York Rollin’ Knicks to hold a wheelchair basketball presentation during physical education classes.
Students, ages 12-14, had the opportunity to learn about wheelchair sports and participate in a full-court wheelchair basketball game. The game was led by Selden Middle School’s own Breanna Clark, an eight-grade student who is currently a member of the NWBA junior 10’ division team, the Brooklyn/New Jersey Nets.
Middle Country Central School District administrators also joined in on the fun and had the opportunity to compete against the students. The event was intended to offer students a hands-on understanding of the strength it takes to compete in wheelchair sports.
