Middle Country Central School District’s Selden Middle School recently welcomed Director of the Town of Brookhaven Wheelchair Sports Jay Sorcelli and members of the renowned National Wheelchair Basketball Association (NWBA) team, the New York Rollin’ Knicks to hold a wheelchair basketball presentation during physical education classes.
Students, ages 12-14, had the opportunity to learn about wheelchair sports and participate in a full-court wheelchair basketball game. The game was led by Selden Middle School’s own Breanna Clark, an eight-grade student who is currently a member of the NWBA junior 10’ division team, the Brooklyn/New Jersey Nets.
Middle Country Central School District administrators also joined in on the fun and had the opportunity to compete against the students. The event was intended to offer students a hands-on understanding of the strength it takes to compete in wheelchair sports.

The game offered middle school students an opportunity to play wheelchair basketball and have a first-hand experience of the strength it takes to compete in wheelchair sports.

Kindergarten students at Unity Drive Pre-K/Kindergarten Center pull each other on sleighs to help build strength and endurance during Winter Wonderland-themed gym classes as part of a yearlong initiative to promote active learning.
Unity Drive Pre-K/Kindergarten Center kindergarten students learned to be active learners during Winter Wonderland-themed gym classes, where students used carpet squares to simulate ice skating.
Unity Drive Pre-K/Kindergarten Center decorated snowflakes in return for dollar donations to purchase holiday gifts for those in need. The students learned the importance of sharing and giving back to their community with the “Sharing Snowman” project, which raised over $1,000.

Newfield High School student and varsity football player, Jelani Greene, received the school’s first National Football Foundation award. In addition to winning the Long Island Class II Championship with his team, Jelani received this recognition as Suffolk County’s top wide receiver.
Newfield High School student and varsity football player, Elijah Riley, received the Carl A. Hanson and Tom Cassesse awards. In addition to winning the Long Island Class II Championship with his team, Elijah received this recognition as Suffolk County’s top player and the top defensive back respectively.
