Dawnwood Middle School Presents Spectacular Production of The Little Mermaid Jr.

Dawnwood Middle School recently presented its captivating musical adventure that transported its audiences under the sea. This exciting production was held at Dawnwood Middle School Auditorium, which offered a magical experience for audiences of all ages.

Directed by Shawn Keane, Dawwood Middle School’s rendition of The Little Mermaid Jr. promised a spellbinding spectacle, featuring a talented cast of young performers who have dedicated countless hours to perfecting their roles. From enchanting musical numbers to dazzling choreography, the production showcased the incredible creativity and passion of Dawnwood’s students.

Based on the beloved Disney film and the Broadway production, The Little Mermaid Jr. follows the journey of Ariel, a spirited young mermaid who dreams of exploring the world above the sea. With unforgettable characters, breathtaking sets, and unforgettable musical numbers such as “Under the Sea” and “Part of Your World,” this timeless tale of love, adventure, and self-discovery will captivate audiences from start to finish.

Newfield High School’s Tri-M Music Honor Society Induction Ceremony

Newfield High School held an induction ceremony for 30 new Tri-M Music Honor Society members. This is a prestigious recognition for young musicians who have demonstrated exceptional musical achievements and academic excellence. The Tri-M Music Honor Society looks to promote the love of music in the greater Newfield High School student body.

“Our new Tri-M members have showcased their musical talents and exemplified leadership, scholarship, and service,” said Scott Graviano, Principal of Newfield High School. “Their induction into this society is a testament to their commitment to excellence in music and academics.” 

The Tri-M Music Honor Society is a program of the National Association for Music Education, designed to recognize students for their musical ability, academic excellence, school involvement, and community service. Membership in Tri-M provides students with opportunities for leadership and service within their school and community.

Hawkins Path Elementary School Hosts Field Day

Hawkins Path Elementary School was a hub of excitement and activity as students participated in the annual field day, a highly anticipated, physical education event that’s run with assistance from the dedicated members of Newfield High School’s Varsity Leaders Club. 

The field day provided the students with a fun-filled day of outdoor games, friendly competitions, and team-building activities. Under the bright sunshine and amidst cheers and laughter, Hawkins Path Elementary students showcased their athleticism, teamwork, and sportsmanship. Hawkins Path PTA volunteers treated all the students and staff to a BBQ to add to the excitement of the day.

Adding to the vibrancy of the event were the enthusiastic volunteers from Newfield High School’s Varsity Leaders Club. These high school students generously devoted their time and energy to ensure the smooth execution of the field day activities. Whether they were supervising games, cheering on participants, or offering words of encouragement, the Varsity Leaders Club members played an instrumental role in creating an unforgettable experience for elementary school students.

Centereach High School Choirs Strike Gold at Music in the Parks Competition

Centereach High School’s musical talents shone brightly as the Select Vocal Ensemble, Men’s Choir, and Women’s Choir claimed top honors at the recent Music in the Park competition held at Busch Gardens.

In an impressive display of vocal prowess and dedication, Centereach High School’s Men’s Choir and Women’s Choir shined bright, each earning a score of Excellent and securing first place in their respective divisions. The Select Vocal Ensemble, a beacon of musical excellence, received a score of Superior and clinched first place in the Mixed Chorus Division, earning the prestigious title of Best Overall Choir.

The accolades did not stop there. Centereach High School’s music program celebrated individual achievements as well. Adam Piotrowski was recognized as the Best Student Accompanist, showcasing his exceptional musical talent and dedication to his craft. Tatiana Arezzo, with her outstanding vocal performance, was awarded the title of Outstanding Vocalist, further highlighting the depth of talent within the school’s choir program.

Newfield and Centereach high schools hosted a distinguished breakfast event to celebrate the academic achievements of their brightest scholars. The gathering brought together the top 25 students from each high school and showcased their dedication to excellence in education.

An opportunity to recognize the exceptional accomplishments of those who have consistently demonstrated outstanding academic performance, the breakfast placed a spotlight on the top 25 students, each of whom consistently exhibited strong leadership qualities and a commitment to the school communities.

“We are so proud to honor our top 25 students,” said Dr. Roberta Gerold, Superintendent of Schools. “These students have shown extraordinary dedication to their studies, and their achievements serve as an inspiration to their peers and the entire school community.”

Selden Middle School 8th Grade Chorus Embarks on Broadway Adventure to Wicked

The vibrant voices of Selden Middle School’s eighth-grade chorus resonated through the streets of Manhattan as they embarked on a thrilling field trip to experience the magic of Broadway with a viewing of the renowned musical, Wicked.

Under the guidance of their dedicated music teacher, Joan Meichner, the students of Selden Middle School had the opportunity to witness the captivating tale of friendship and resilience in the Land of Oz. From the moment the curtains rose to the final bow, the chorus members were enraptured by the spellbinding performances and the mesmerizing musical numbers that unfolded on the stage.

Before the show, the students savored the sights and sounds of New York City, indulging in a delicious lunch and exploring the bustling streets of Manhattan. For many young performers, this was their first visit to the iconic theatre district as well as their first train ride, making the experience all the more memorable.

The field trip to Broadway not only provided the students with a unique cultural experience but also served as a source of inspiration for their musical pursuits. As they return to Selden Middle School, the eighth-grade students are sure to carry the magic of Wicked with them, infusing their rehearsals and performances with newfound passion and creativity,

North Coleman Road Elementary School Celebrates Military Appreciation Month With Veteran’s Parade

North Coleman Road Elementary School celebrated Military Appreciation Month, held every May, with monthlong lessons and a special Veteran’s Parade. Students were immersed in learning about service and the ways—big and small—that everyone can contribute to their community. 

“We are thrilled to honor our military heroes during Military Appreciation Month,” said Dr. Gretchen Rodney, Principal of North Coleman Road Elementary School. “This parade is a testament to the values of service and sacrifice that we aim to instill in our students, and it provides an important opportunity for our young learners to connect with real-life heroes.”

The highlight of the month-long celebration was the veteran’s parade held at the school. Students and staff will welcome 19 active and former service members from various branches of the military. Each veteran participating in the parade was personally connected to at least one student, fostering a meaningful and impactful experience for the young people of North Coleman Road Elementary.

The celebration exemplified the school’s commitment to educating students not only academically but also about important values such as service, empathy, and citizenship.
