Middle Country Central School District Goes Pink for Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Throughout the month of October, students, staff, and faculty across the Middle Country Central School District united in a powerful show of support and solidarity by wearing pink in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Schools across the districts participated in various “pink out” days and awareness activities designed to educate and empower the community about the impact of breast cancer. Hallways were adorned with pink decorations, bulletin boards highlighted stories of hope and resilience, and many classrooms held age-appropriate discussions on health and advocacy.

“By wearing pink, we’re doing more than just showing our support. We’re teaching our students the importance of compassion, community engagement, and raising awareness for causes that affect millions,” said Dr. Roberta Gerold, Superintendent of Schools. “It’s inspiring to see such a strong sense of unity and purpose across all of our schools.”

Middle Country Central School District remains committed to supporting important health and wellness initiatives, and this October’s district-wide effort exemplifies the power of education and community coming together for a cause that touches so many lives.

Middle Country Central School District Elementary Schools Welcome Local Fire Departments and EMTs for Fire Safety Education

Elementary schools across the Middle Country Central School District received special visits from local fire departments and emergency medical technicians this week, as part of an engaging and educational Fire Prevention and Safety initiative.

Eugene Auer Elementary School students were treated to an exciting and informative visit from the Centereach Fire Department. Firefighters spoke to students about the importance of fire safety, including essential skills such as Stop, Drop, and Roll and how to call 911 in case of an emergency. Students then went outside to explore a real fire engine, learning about the tools and equipment used to fight fires and protect the community.

Over at North Coleman Road Elementary, the Centereach Fire Department also conducted fire safety lessons for all students. The interactive presentation emphasized awareness and readiness, teaching students how to stay calm and safe during emergencies. Students had the opportunity to climb aboard the fire truck, explore its compartments, and ask firefighters questions about their important work.

Students from Bicycle Path Elementary PreK/Kindergarten Center recently participated in their annual Teddy Bear Clinic, arriving with their favorite stuffed animals in tow. During the event, paramedics conducted playful “checkups” on the children’s furry friends, guiding students through an imaginative and educational experience. Through hands-on activities, students learned how EMTs check vital signs, collaborate with firefighters, and respond to emergencies. It was a fun and comforting way to introduce medical care and emergency services in a positive and engaging setting.

Hawkins Path Elementary welcomed the Selden Fire Department for a day of fire prevention education. Firefighters shared tips on how to stay safe, prevent fires at home, and be prepared in emergencies, further reinforcing the district’s commitment to safety and community education.

The Middle Country Central School District extends its heartfelt thanks to the Centereach Fire Department, Centereach Ambulance, and the Selden Fire Department for their time, service, and dedication to educating our students. These visits not only provided valuable safety information but also helped build strong, positive connections between students and our community’s first responders.
