The Centereach High School Music Department hosted a spirited car wash fundraiser at Applebee’s in Lake Grove recently. The event, aimed at raising funds for their upcoming spring music trip to Disney, was a resounding success, thanks in large part to the enthusiastic support from the community.

The car wash, held in the bustling parking lot of the popular restaurant, saw a steady stream of vehicles lined up for a good cause. The students worked diligently, washing and shining cars with a dedication that matched their musical talents. Their efforts not only helped in raising vital funds but also showcased their commitment and teamwork.

Adding a unique twist to the event, the Centereach Fire Department also joined in the fun, bringing their fire trucks to be washed by the students. The fire department’s presence underscored the strong community spirit and provided an exciting and memorable experience for students.

“The support we received from the community and the Centereach Fire Department was incredible,” said Mr. Brian Hough, a Centereach High School music teacher. “It’s heartwarming to see such enthusiasm for our students’ passion and their upcoming trip. Every dollar raised will go toward providing our students with an unforgettable music experience.”

Funds raised will directly contribute to the costs associated with the spring music trip, which promises to be an enriching experience for the students, allowing them to perform and learn in new and exciting environments. The Centereach High School Music Department extends their heartfelt thanks to Applebee, the Centereach Fire Department, and everyone who came out to support the event. The community’s generosity and support play a crucial role in making these opportunities possible for the students.

The Middle Country Central School District welcomed students back to school for the 2024-2025 academic year. The district’s schools are excitedly buzzing as students and staff return for a year filled with new opportunities, growth, and achievement.

The first day of school was marked by a festive atmosphere across the district’s campuses, where students were greeted with warm smiles and enthusiastic welcomes from teachers and staff. New initiatives, programs, and enhanced learning environments are in place to ensure a successful year ahead.

The Middle Country Central School District (MCCSD)  welcomed its newest educators during its annual new teacher orientation. This comprehensive orientation program was designed to provide new teachers and teaching assistants with essential tools, resources, and support to ensure a successful career start in MCCSD.

The first day of orientation started with breakfast, offering new hires a chance to meet their peers and begin networking. Afterward, attendees engaged in a series of informative sessions, a crucial activity that introduced new staff members to the support and guidance available to them.

On the second day, attendees participated in workshops on beginning-of-the- year classroom management, which provided valuable strategies for effective classroom control student engagement, and classroom preparation. Lunch was provided by the Middle Country Teachers Association (MCTA).

MCCSD is committed to ensuring that its new educators are well-prepared and supported as they embark on their teaching careers. This orientation program is a testament to the district’s dedication to providing a robust start for its staff, ultimately benefiting the students they will serve.

A heartwarming act of generosity unfolded at New Lane Elementary School as the Muccio family—Isabella, Michael, Giavanna, and Madelyn— donated an impressive $1,317 worth of backpacks and school supplies recently. This significant contribution is the result of their dedicated lemonade stand fundraiser, which aimed to support Middle Country students in need districtwide.

“We are incredibly proud of the Muccio family for their outstanding effort and dedication,” said Dr. Roberta Gerold, Superintendent of Schools. “Their donation will go a long way in supporting our students and ensuring they have the supplies they need to thrive in their education. It’s wonderful to see such community spirit and support.”

The Muccio family’s lemonade stand became a beacon of community spirit and charitable giving. For three days, the family ran their lemonade stand, demonstrating a remarkable commitment to making a difference. Their efforts not only quenched the thirst of residents but also gathered substantial funds for a cause close to their hearts.

The donation was warmly received by New Lane Elementary School, where the supplies will be distributed to students across the Middle Country School District. The generous contribution will help ensure that students in need are equipped with essential tools for a successful school year, embodying the spirit of community support and kindness.

Isabella, Michael, Giavanna, and Madelyn Muccio’s initiative stands as a testament to the impact that young people can have when they come together with a common purpose. Their hard work and enthusiasm have brought about a positive change, demonstrating that even small acts of kindness can make a significant difference.

Congratulations and heartfelt thanks are for the inspiring Middle Country Central School District’s Muccio siblings—Isabella (11th grade), Michael (7th grade), Giavanna (5th grade), and Madelyn (2nd grade)—who have exceeded their fundraising goal through a dedicated lemonade stand effort. These enterprising young individuals diligently worked during their summer vacations to support children in need within the Middle Country Central School District, amassing a remarkable total of $1,317. 

Operating their lemonade stand for 18 hours over three days in their home driveway, the Muccio siblings demonstrated unwavering commitment and a deep sense of community. All proceeds will be used to purchase essential school supplies and backpacks for needy students.

On the evening of August 4, the Muccio siblings visited Walmart and Target to purchase supplies and backpacks, and they will continue their shopping spree in the coming days to ensure every cent raised goes directly toward benefiting local students. The Muccio family’s initiative received tremendous support from the community, including friends, neighbors, and devoted teachers and staff from the Middle Country. Their collective generosity and enthusiasm played a pivotal role in the success of this fundraiser.

Brandon Lloyd, a graduate of Centereach High School’s class of 2021, has been recognized for his extraordinary service and bravery. He recently completed his deployment as a Petty Officer 2nd Class with the United States Navy. In acknowledgment of his outstanding service, Brandon Lloyd has been promoted to the rank of E5 Petty Officer, 2nd Class. Additionally, Brandon was awarded The US Navy Marine Corps Achievement Award/Ribbon by the Captain of The USS Mason.

“We are immensely proud of Brandon’s accomplishments and the dedication he has shown to his country and his fellow servicemembers,” said Thomas Bell, principal of Centereach High School. “His achievements are a testament to his character and the values instilled in him during his time here at Centereach.”

Brandon Lloyd finished his first deployment as part of Operation Prosperity Guardian, where he served aboard the USS Mason from October 2023 to July 2024. During this time, Brandon served valiantly in defense of the USS Mason during multiple attacks, including intercontinental ballistic missile and drone assaults by Houthi rebels in the Red Sea. His exemplary contributions of his service earned him The US Navy Marine Corps Achievement Award/Ribbon, presented by the Captain of The USS Mason. He is currently stationed at Mayport Naval Station in Jacksonville, Florida, where he will continue to serve his country with honor and pride.

Middle Country Schools hope to continue to foster the finest education for their students. Brandon Lloyd is just one example of the successful lives the students of Centereach High School go on to live after graduation. 

Centereach High School Artist Alexandra Cesa and Newfield High School Artist Catarina Pacheco have been awarded $100 scholarships from the Suffolk County Art Alliance Association (SCALA). This prestigious honor recognizes the outstanding artistic talents of these students.

“Alexandra and Catarina have demonstrated remarkable growth and vision in their artistic journeys,” said Centereach High School art teacher Ms. LaLima. “Their work is a testament to their passion and perseverance.”

The recognition of Alexandra and Catarina’s artistic achievements is a testament to their hard work, creativity, and dedication to the arts In addition to the scholarship, both artists had the opportunity to have prints of their artwork displayed in the lobby of the Patchogue Theatre for the Performing Arts. This exhibition coincided with the recent Atlantic Wind Symphony Concert, an event dedicated to celebrating Senior Art & Music students.

“We are incredibly proud of Alexandra and Catarina for their exceptional talent and dedication to their art,” said Newfield High School art teacher Mr. Berretta. “Their artwork reflects not only their creativity but also their commitment to honing their craft. Seeing their pieces displayed at the Patchogue Theatre for the Performing Arts is a proud moment for all of us.”

This event not only highlights the artistic skills of these young artists but also emphasizes the importance of supporting the arts within the educational system. SCALA continues to play a vital role in promoting and encouraging the arts in Suffolk County.

Seniors from Centereach High School and Newfield High School took a heartwarming trip down memory lane and visited their former elementary schools for a special senior walk event. This sentimental journey allowed graduating seniors to reconnect with their roots, reminisce about their early school years, and reunite with former teachers and staff members.

Participating seniors donned their graduation caps and gowns to embark on a meaningful visit to Bicycle Path, Eugene Auer, Hawkins Path, Holbrook Road, Jericho, Oxhead Road, New Lane, Stagecoach, North Coleman Road elementary schools, as well as Unity Drive Prekindergarten/Kindergarten Center. As the seniors strolled through the halls that once echoed with their laughter and learning, they were met with enthusiastic cheers and applause from current elementary students, teachers, and staff.

The event was a poignant reminder of the journey these seniors have undertaken since their first days of formal education. For many, it was a chance to express gratitude to the teachers and mentors who laid the foundation for their academic and personal growth. Smiles, hugs, and even a few tears of joy marked the occasion as seniors shared stories of their favorite elementary school memories and exchanged words of wisdom with the younger students who eagerly listened.

“The Senior Walk is always a highlight of the year for our graduating class,” said Centereach High School Principal Thomas Bell. “It’s a beautiful tradition that bridges the past and the future, reminding our seniors of how far they’ve come and inspiring our younger students to dream big.”

“Seeing our seniors interact with their former teachers and seeing the excitement on the faces of the elementary school students was truly heartwarming,” added Newfield High School Principal Scott Graviano. “It’s moments like these that showcase the strong sense of community and pride that defines our district.”

For the seniors, the Senior Walk served as a poignant reminder of their growth and achievements over the years. Many expressed gratitude for the support they received from their elementary school teachers and excitement for the future as they prepare to embark on the next chapter of their lives.

The Middle Country Central School District’s high schools recently hosted commencement ceremonies for the 2024 graduating classes of Newfield High School and Centereach High Schools. The memorable ceremony highlighted the achievements and bright futures of their graduating seniors. The event was attended by students, families, faculty, and distinguished guests.

“Congratulations to the exceptional class of 2024. These remarkable young individuals have positively influenced the Middle Country community through their academic and personal accomplishments, excelling in academics, creativity, and athletics,” said Scott Graviano, Newfield High School Principal.

During the graduation ceremonies, the class of 2024’s valedictorian and salutatorian took the podium to reflect on the last four years of their high school journeys and expressed their gratitude to their teachers, parents, and peers for their support. The event included the presentation of diplomas and the turning of the tassels.

“I am immensely proud of the class of 2024 and all they have accomplished. I’d like to thank our teachers, staff, and families for their relentless support and dedication to our students’ success. We look forward to seeing the amazing futures this class will create,” said Centereach High School Principal, Thomas Bell. 

Newfield High School recently held a festive barbecue to honor its graduating seniors run by the senior class advisors, Sal Berretta and Laurie Montalto. The event was a joyous occasion attended by students, faculty, and staff.

Amidst a backdrop of laughter and memories, seniors enjoyed food from Cafe Amici, Mangiamo’s Italian Market, and Holy Cow, a halal restaurant owned by the parents of a Newfield graduate. For dessert. everyone was able to enjoy Mr. Softee. The atmosphere was filled with camaraderie and awesome tunes by Legendary Entertainment, as students gathered one last time before embarking on their respective journeys beyond high school.

“This BBQ was a wonderful way to celebrate the achievements of our seniors and to bid them farewell as they move forward,” said Scott Graviano, Principal of Newfield High School. “It’s a moment of pride for all of us to see them ready to take on new challenges.”

As the school year comes to a close, the barbecue served as a memorable finale for the graduating class of 2024. The school wishes all seniors success and happiness in their future endeavors.
