Middle Country Central School District in the Media

The Middle Country Central School District recently welcomed local race car driver Alyssa Paprocky to Centereach High School. Paprocky visited the school to raise awareness of the hundreds of animals that have been transplanted from Florida and Texas to Long Island animal shelters following the regions devastating hurricanes. Paprocky discussed the several ways the students could help these animals and volunteer their time at local animal shelters on Long Island.

 

The event, sponsored by the school’s Youth for Humanity Club, provided students the opportunity to ask Paprocky about her racing career and her success in the male dominated NASCAR field. The event not only supported the District’s initiative to teach students the importance of community involvement but also exemplified that you can reach the highest levels of any career field through hard work and dedication.

 

 

The Middle Country Central School District’s Stagecoach Elementary School recently hosted a reading event, “Rock and Read,” for the entire Stagecoach community. This event came at the culmination of the school’s month long “Read Like A Rock Star” initiative as part of the nationwide Pick A Reading Partner (PARP) Program.

 

At the evening event, Stagecoach teachers read books to students with musical themes and organized activities that corresponded with each specific book. Afterwards, students enjoyed a live rock and roll concert held in the gymnasium with servings of popcorn.

 

Middle Country Central School District continues to provide students with opportunities that brings reading to life and encourages all students to find a reading partner as they advance through reading levels.

 

The Middle Country Central School District recently recognized its October Students of the Month at a Board of Education Meeting. Centereach High School senior Hanna Hudson, Newfield High School senior Sydney Taub, Dawnwood Middle School eighth grade student Grace Miller and Selden Middle School eighth grade student Austin Pelissier were all recognized for their success inside and outside of the classroom.

 

“The District is incredibly proud to honor these four high-achieving students as they continue to thrive academically and serve as role models for their peers,” said Superintendent of Schools Dr. Roberta Gerold. “The fall is always an exciting time with students returning to their studies and getting involved in the Middle Country community. The four students being recognized have led the way in ushering in an exciting new school year.”

 

Hanna Hudson is a senior at Centereach High School. Her success academically will lead her to completing five Advanced Placement courses and an additional six college-level courses upon graduation in June. As she has challenged herself more, her grades have continued to improve—a testament to her determination and work ethic. Hanna has also flourished outside the classroom. She currently serves as Senior Class President, was just voted by her peers as Homecoming Queen and excels in softball and basketball. Next fall, Hanna will be pursuing a degree in early childhood education and a minor in special education.

 

As a senior at Newfield High School, Sydney Taub has the potential to graduate in June with approximately 40 college credits. This year alone, Sydney is enrolled in six Advanced Placement courses and a college class. Newfield teachers often describe Sydney as a well-rounded student who not only excels academically but has become an active member of the Middle Country community. She is the resident of the National Honor Society, vice president of the school newspaper, treasurer of the Glamor Gals Club and a member of the Mock Trial Team. Sydney will be pursuing a degree in political science next fall.

 

Dawnwood Middle School eighth student— and September student of the month—Grace Miller was selected for her work ethic and continued academic success. Grace has maintained high honor roll since the first quarter of sixth grade. Her achievements in the classroom are matched by her musical talents. Grace has played leading roles in Dawnwood musicals, plays the guitar at local events, and writes and records her own songs.

 

Austin Pelissier, an eighth grade student at Selden Middle School and aspiring environmental engineer, was recognized as the school’s September student of the month. Austin has remained on the high honor roll since the beginning of middle school—earning a 97.15 GPA. He continues to make positive contribution at Selden Middle School as a member of National Junior Honor Society, the school’s literary magazine and the Youth for Humanity club.

Middle Country Central School District’s Newfield High School Spartan Ensemble recently sang the Star-Spangled Banner at a Stony Brook University football game. The rendition of the national anthem came under the direction of music teacher Kristi Adams.

 

The Middle Country Central School District continues to provide students opportunities to collaborate and perform all across Long Island.

 

The Middle Country Central School District recently announced the 19 District students selected to perform in the upcoming NYSCAME/SCMEA All-County Music Festival. The festival, which will take place this November, will bring together students from across Suffolk County to perform musical masterpieces under the direction of expert conductors.

 

District students were selected based on their NYSSMA solo scores from this past spring and their music teachers’ recommendations. Middle Country Central School District continues to offer students continuous opportunities to hone their creativity and develop skills outside the classroom. Middle Country Central School District’s Centereach High School students were recently recognized as Long Island Scholar Artists by the Long Island Arts Alliance. Seniors Julia Prigl and Vincent Meyers were two of twenty students from Long Island to receive the prestigious distinction.  Julia Prigl was recognized as a Scholar Artist in Music and Vincent became the District’s first student to be recognized as a Scholar Artist in Theater.

 

The Middle Country Central School District continues to provide students with ample opportunities to participate in art, music and theater programs. The District looks forward to its students’ future recognitions in the arts throughout the 2017-2018 school year.

 

Centereach High School senior Madison McNally recently sang the National Anthem at the Nesconset Chamber of Commerce Summer Concert Series. The concert series, presented by both the Nesconset Chamber of Commerce and Suffolk County Legislator Leslie Kennedy, provides those in the greater Middle Country community an opportunity to listen to local musicians and enjoy the summer weather.

The Middle Country Central School District recently hosted a car wash to raise money in memory of Joshua Mileto, who tragically passed away during a football practice at Sachem East High School. Cheerleaders and football players from Centereach High School and Newfield High School came together for a day of fundraising and washing cars.

 

The teams raised $4,100 to be donated to the Joshua Mileto Memorial Scholarship Fund. The Middle Country community continues to offer its support and condolences to the Sachem community during this difficult time.

 

Middle Country Central School District’s Centereach High School recently hosted its graduation ceremony to commemorate the Class of 2017. Family, friends and the Middle Country community joined the 385 graduates on the Centereach High School football field to mark the milestone.

 

Valedictorian Demi Lambadis and Salutatorian Kelly McLaughlin both delivered speeches to their fellow graduates – discussing their favorite memories as Middle Country students and providing inspirational words as they embark on the new chapter in their lives. Superintendent of Schools Dr. Roberta Gerold and Principal Thomas Bell also offered remarks to congratulate the graduates and wish them luck in all of their future endeavors.

 

The Middle Country Central School District’s Centereach High School recently celebrated its annual Senior Prom. The formal event was held at Giorgio’s in Baiting Hollow – overlooking the Long Island Sound.

 

The annual gathering allows the graduating seniors and their teachers to reminisce on their time in the Middle Country school system, spend time with their soon-to-be fellow graduates and enjoy great music and food. The seniors also took a moment to thank their class advisers, and all the teachers at Centereach High School, for their continued support throughout their high school career.
